How to protect your sheepskin boots
We recommend that you spray your sheepskin boots before you wear them with a good suede protector and then re-apply regularly. This also has the benefit of making them more water resistant and will repel dirt. Prevention is better than cure and if your boots are protected you are less likely to need to clean them.
However, sheepskin boots are not waterproof and you should avoid wearing them in the wettest conditions as this may damage them. Genuine sheepskin footwear is resilient to light rain or snow but if your sheepskin boots do get very wet you need to let them dry in a well ventilated area away from direct sunlight and direct heat.

How to clean your sheepskin boots
You can use a hard cleaning block for removing stubborn marks from the outside of your sheepskin boots. To use a cleaning block, lightly rub over the soiled area without pressing too hard; this should remove most small stains.
Top Tip: Sheepskin boots are generally quite resilient but they can be marked by grease and similar substances. If this is the case it is worth trying to remove the grease stain with a liberal application of Fullers Earth powder, available from chemists, to absorb and remove the stain. Fullers Earth (calcium montmorillonite) is a highly absorbent traditional stain remover used as a degreasing and cleaning powder to absorb and remove all types of oil, dirt and grease marks.
For more thorough sheepskin boot cleaning (for non-washable sheepskin boots) you should slightly moisten the outer surface with cold water and dilute a specialist sheepskin boot cleaner to make a solution with equal proportions of water and foam. Then take a smooth sponge, dip it into the solution and softly clean the dirt on your sheepskin boots. You should rinse your boots with a clean sponge dipped in cold water. After washing you should let your boots dry naturally away from direct heat.
How to wash your sheepskin boots
Some manufacturers stipulate that you should not wash your sheepskin boots, although they may be cleaned using a damp cloth and some specialist sheepskin shampoo. You should always check the care instructions you receive with your boots first and follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
If you purchase a pair of washable sheepskin boots and decide to clean them you should use a mild PH neutral wool wash with tepid water and wash the whole boot otherwise you will get left with watermarks. Fill with paper towels and leave to dry naturally away from direct heat.
Celtic Sheepskin's boots can be washed in a machine at 30 degrees on the wool cycle. When you order your sheepskin boots they will contain specific washing and cleaning instructions. You must not soak them, use fabric conditioner, dry them artificially or in direct sunlight.
Once you have washed or cleaned your boots they may not look quite the same afterwards (although we have washed a pair and they were lovely and fluffy!); the colour may fade slightly and some of the natural oils will have been lost. It is however considered a badge of honour have a grubby and scuffed pair of sheepskin boots so you may decide just to let them age gracefully.
