About Sheepskin
Sheepskin has been used for thousands of years to keep people warm in wintry climates and comfortable in warmer environments. Sheepskin is an extremely versatile fabric, and is used to make many kinds of clothing, from coats and hats to socks and gloves and, of course, sheep skin boots. In fact, footwear has been one of the most popular uses for sheepskin and boots, slippers and clogs made of sheepskin are valued for their comfort and style.
Sheepskin can hold ten times its weight in moisture so, if your feet are wet from the shower, or moist from perspiration in the summer, sheepskin boots will wick away the moisture and keep your feet dry. This isn’t the case with synthetic or manmade sheepskin boots. Sheepskin boots or slippers also insulate well keeping your feet warm all winter. There is nothing like slipping on a snug pair of sheepskinboots to see you through those cold winter days.

Sheepskin is not only durable but also extremely soft and lightweight. It can be used to create a boot that has a rich suede texture on the outside and a gentle fleece lining on the inside. This is why sheep skin boots are so snug and comfortable.
Strong enough for outdoor wear, sheepskin boots will mould to your feet with wear and feel like gigantic socks when you slip them on. The fleece lining means that sheepskin boots can actually be worn all year round either in extreme cold or in the heat of summer. In cold conditions, the fleece will provide your feet with an insulating layer of warmth by trapping in body heat. When the weather is warmer, the natural fibers of the fleece in sheepskin boots actually keep your feet cool by pulling perspiration away from your skin, keeping air circulating in your sheepskinboots and therefore ensuring that your feet are kept dry. Therefore, as sheepskin boots are naturally thermostatic, you can wear them in conditions from -30 F to as high as your thermometer will go.
Sheepskin contains lanolin and will moisturise your feet if you wear them with bare feet. In Australia and the US, the usual way to wear sheepskin boots is without socks.

Sheepskin Boot News
Beware of Fake Sheepskin Boot Sales Online - December 2009Given the popularity of sheepskin and other winter boots, it's no wonder that fake sites have been set up to make quick money. Gullible buyers who haven't bothered to check out either the website or the products have lost money, had their credit cards compromised or ended up with fake pairs of boots.
Thankfully, in a major crackdown, the Metropolitan police have shut down as many as 1200 sites, 400 of them suspected of selling fake sheepskin boots.
Most of these customers were taken in by offers of cheap prices and seasonal sales as well as extremely genuine-looking add-ons like authenticity cards, boot-care booklets and packaging.
- With customer interest likely to last all season, here are a few precautions that will help shoppers:
- Authentic boots sell for about £100 or more, so there's no harm in double-checking offers of boots for less.
- Ensure that payment portals display secure features.
- Call Consumer Direct at 08454 040506 if your suspicions are aroused.
